David Thomson
Honorary Clinical Professor of Oncology
David joins the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre as an Honorary Clinical Professor at the University of Liverpool. David brings expertise in radiotherapy and proton beam therapy research, having achieved a substantial national and international reputation in his field of head and neck oncology as a consultant at The Christie in Manchester. He is chief investigator for three large multicentre NIHR portfolio clinical trials, with associated programmes of translational biology, imaging and physics research. He has an impressive publication history with papers in major journals including Lancet Oncology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. David has roles on several head and neck guidelines and strategy groups including those for NCRI, HNCIG and PTCOG. He is an Associate Section Editor for the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics (Red Journal), and delivered a number of invited lectures at national and international meetings and institutions. David’s appointment supports closer head and neck cancer research links between Liverpool and Manchester, harnessing our respective strengths to develop a globally impactful research programme to improve the outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer.
