Liverpool Head & Neck Centre

Patient & Carer Support Groups

  • We are the Merseyside Head & Neck Cancer Patient and Carer Support Group (HaNC for short)

Quite simply, nobody knows what it is like to have head and neck cancer better than the patients and carers who have already been through it.

The entire journey – from diagnosis, through surgery and treatment, and on to recovery – is a real roller-coaster of a ride.  Everyone copes differently.  However, when asked about the one thing they wish they had known, or had available to them, that really would have really helped, all our members said:

Someone to talk to – who know what it’s like because they’ve been there too.

So that’s why HaNC exists – patients and carers from across the region meeting up to chat, share experiences and support each other.

We always welcome new members to the Group (patients, carers, friends & family). So feel to attend the next meeting.

We meet on the first Friday of every month at the at 1pm at Sunflowers, 21 Aigburth Road Liverpool L17 4JR.  Alternatively you can sign up to our Facebook page (@HaNCCommunity) or our Twitter page (@HaNCCommunity) for regular updates on Support Group activities.

If you would like further information about the HaNC Support Group, please contact:

Mike McGovern (HaNC Support Group Chair) on 07982 408171 or mikemcgovern54@aol.com, the Clinical Nurse Specialists or visit our social media page on Facebook (@HaNCCommunity) and Twitter (@HaNCCommunity)

But we also want to give something back, so our other activities feed directly into clinical practice developments and help fundraise towards support and research via the Patient Research Forum.

  • Warrington and Halton Patient Head and Neck Cancer Support Group is an independent self-health group for people living with or affected by cancer of the head or neck.

Your medical team will manage your treatment, explain procedures to be performed and the possible after-effects, but our members can tell you what it feels like and how they coped.  Trained supporters can answer your questions and you realistic expectations.  They can tell you they got through the difficult periods and provide information and support to help you do the same.
